The Prisoner 2005

Document Actions
The flagship wine of Orin Swift Cellars, The Prisoner 2005 is a delicious blended red, wonderfully drinkable and an excellent complement to excellent food.

Generally speaking, I'm a fan of interesting reds, including rare varietals and innovative blends. With blends, the theory is that the combinations make for tremendous possibilities, bringing together characteristics that together make a wining experience greater than the sum of its parts. The Prisoner 2005 is proof that the theory can work. For those who like to watch the numbers, the breakdown on the 2005 vintage is 48% Zinfandel, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 10% Petite Syrah, and 2% Charbono.

This is a wine to take some time getting to know. The nose is complex, with many influences uniquely coming together. Be sure you've got a large glass and leave lots of room for swirling it about. With each attempt to identify one of the scents you encounter, you'll find that a few seconds more in the glass will be sufficient for opening up another.

Just as rewarding on the palate, the fun of attempting to identify the parts starts all over. Don't stop at the first taste, though. Pay careful attention and let it work its magic, ending with a delightful finish, lingering just long enough to leave you wanting for more.

I highly recommend The Prisoner 2005.
