Ménage à Trois 2002
Hailing from Folie à Deux winery in Napa Valley, Ménage à Trois wine is a delicious blend of three grapes: Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Each of the varieties used in the wine is fermented and barrel aged separately before being blended together for more barrel aging and subsequent bottling.
The result of the blend is a wonderfully drinkable while inexpensive wine. Its nose is inviting, promising a delicious blend of ripe fruit. From its first taste, the wine delivers, with the spicy Zinfandel asserting itself and offering the taste of blackberries. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc balance the Zinfandel nicely, rounding out the flavor and helping to give the taste structure.
For my main course, I had a tasty filet mignon, covered in Roquefort, with sides of asparagus, and some French fries. I could not have been happier with the pairing.
The meal was a resounding success. Three of us were able to reconnect with a fourth of whom we had seen far too little in the past six months. We shared a delicious meal, stimulating conversation, and ultimately a nearly perfect evening. Knowing my friends as I do, I was certain to enjoy myself but the pleasure of the adventure was without question enhanced by the Ménage à Trois.
