This is a plea to limit the usage. Please employ " "boys," "people," or "folks" in lieu of "Guys." I note recently that "Guys," at least in the NY metropolitan area, appears to have become an equivalent of a Southern "y'all." For example. Instead of saying: "Are you staying for the weekend," the speaker will say "Are you Guys staying for the weekend?"
Perhaps it is my age, but this usage grates on me. Language has always given clues as to the speaker's social class, education level, and economic status. "Are you Guys staying for the weekend," to my ears, can never be acceptable educated American English.
So Guys, enough is enough!
