Way to quote rock and roll.
I don't watch near enough network television to understand your sitcom references, but maybe that's a good thing.
Muhammad Ali was a bad man.
Seeing oneself as a distinguished individual could conceivably be indicative of some ego... that's not always a desirable personality characteristic. (I think the hillbilly term is "high fallutin'")
There might be too many guys, but I don't think there can possibly be too many Guys... as in Guy LaFleur.
This is a plea to limit the usage. Please employ " "boys," "people," or "folks" in lieu of "Guys." I note recently that "Guys," at least in the NY metropolitan area, appears to have become an equivalent of a Southern "y'all." For example. Instead of saying: "Are you staying for the weekend," the speaker will say "Are you Guys staying for the weekend?"
Perhaps it is my age, but this usage grates on me. Language has always given clues as to the speaker's social class, education level, and economic status. "Are you Guys staying for the weekend," to my ears, can never be acceptable educated American English.
So Guys, enough is enough!
